Hello! Allow us to introduce ourselves..

Bantie is a Swedish design company with a growing international reputation. We believe that inspired design can make a positive difference to the way people feel (and maybe even the way they behave!).

Our first collection of original, patterned textiles for the home and contract markets was launched in 2007. Everything we produce is designed and crafted in Sweden, where avant-garde designers and artisan makers have been successfully working together for over a hundred years.

To be original in a very crowded world takes courage, intelligence and insight. We offer our own work in the knowledge that the final ‘originality’ comes from our clients; each of you is unique and each of you will use Bantie fabrics, papers or objects in your own particular way. We love what we do, but most of all, we love to see what you do with it!

The coctail question

When does a mix become too much? The answer is usually to stick to a single source! Patterns that have the same provenance feel more like a coherent family, even if at first glance they seem disparate. Drawing the line is just a matter of personal taste. This year’s Bantie collection is a perfect example of the case in point; richly and diversely inspired, the same spirit runs through them all. The patterns are available in a range of scales from giant to dainty, authored and edited to sit cleverly together.

So far we have prints by designers Ulrika Gyllstad and Emma von Brömssen.

Welcome to Bantie’s world!

Let’s make a…?

Bantie fabrics are nothing if not versatile. We make our own trays, table mats and cushions as simple gifts, or to inspire people who might one day buy a pair of curtains or a wall. And we make fabrics by the metre for the thousands of you who, whether starting a project from scratch, re-styling a whole house or up-cycling an old chair, just want to do your own thing . (We know how you feel.)

Our idea is to make art you can live with, art you even want to play with. The choice of pattern, material and colour for a single statement object is always an artistic one, whether you’re covering a treasured book or making a new tea cosy.

The scope is really endless: the skip turns into a ‘pop-up’ café, the car gets unprecedented upholstery, the warehouse becomes as cosy as grandma’s sewing room, the old garage as a stunning as the Albert Hall. It’s happening all the time.

Originality may be described, but not prescribed.

We are a young company, so ‘timeless’ and ‘classic’ are labels we still aspire to, but ‘original’ is one we feel we can claim right now.

But what is originality? It is something we all recognise intuitively, but that no one has a recipe for. For us, it’s a pattern that no one has ever seen, and one that really demands to exist! It tells its own story, hums its own tune, and then changes from minor to major keys according to tone or shade, or whether you use it to cover a cushion or paper a room.

If you work with interior design, please have a look at our collection. Contact us if you need samples or just would like to discuss a project. Since we are a small company we are very flexible, and no question is too small or unimportant. Maybe you need to have your very own colour or pattern for a project? Anything is possible.

Restful or revolutionary? A design dilemma.

Matching furnishing fabrics to the period of your home is a classic solution. But what if you’re not quite a classic type? You live in an 18th century cottage in France, but employ a virtual housekeeper for all the chores? Or you own a minimalist apartment in Tokyo, yet harbour secret yearnings for rampant rice paddies? How do you express the more intriguing sides of your personality, for yourself and for your guests? Everyone wants their guests to feel comfortable – but not bored! And if that’s true for a private home, it’s even more so for any hotel, restaurant, bar or café.

Because we offer stunning, contemporary patterns printed using traditional methods on materials of exceptional quality, our designs suit homes of every period and personalities of (nearly)every type. And the results are never less than beguiling.
